Rocky Mountain Featherbed and Nigel Cabourn just dropped their first collaboration. RMFB’s Kinji Teramoto, the man who resurrected the defunct American brand in 2005, bonded with the British designer over their shared love of vintage apparel and their extensive personal archives. The collaboration marks the 50th anniversary of Rocky Mountain Featherbed and the 100th anniversary of British mountaineer George Mallory’s ascent of Everest – an achievement admired by both men.
For inspiration Cabourn studied his personal collection of over 4,000 vintage garments, along with Teramoto’s archive of original Rocky Mountain Featherbed pieces from the 1960s and 1970s. The resulting capsule was designed in England, made in Japan, and infused with the spirit of the American West. All the outerwear pieces, variations of the Mountain Parka, Short Shell puffer and Down Vest, feature Rocky Mountain Featherbed’s signature single-piece cow leather yoke dyed with chrome and tannin. The chrome improves the durability of the leather, while the tannin helps to maintain the trims natural texture.
