For his first collaboration with Converse, Kim Jones used utilitarian elements to subtly update the Chuck 70 and four key wardrobe staples: a Parka, Crewneck Sweatshirt, Cargo Pant, and T-Shirt. Informed by his personal collection of 80s sportswear, “the design approach for the shoe was very straight forward — taking a classic shoe and then almost encasing it in something to protect it,” says Jones. To do this he added a transparent TPU cage with speed lace eyelets to the 12-ounce canvas upper. Jones also enhanced the outsole with a new diamond grid pattern that increases traction on city streets. Available in black or ivory, the hi-tops have exclusive Kim Jones branding stamped on the tongue and sockliner.
For the apparel, Jones “wanted each [piece] to be a modern version of the ‘Take Ivy’ vibe.” Crafted in a combination of nylon and mesh, the water-resistant Parka features a zippered storm flap, bungee closure, Velcro cuffs and Velcro venting on the back. The Crewneck T-shirt comes in brushed-back terry cotton with herringbone trimming, while the relaxed-straight leg of the Cargo Pant features snap closures and mesh panels for increased ventilation.
