Nike Revives Classic ’70s Silhouette w/ New Challenger OG

In the late 1970s Nike released a series of running shoes that raised the bar for performance, comfort and fit – paving the way for modern, high-performance athletic shoes. Along the with the popular Tailwind and Daybreak, the 1979 Nike Challenger helped redefine the category with its innovative zigzag pattern, variable-width system and lacing. The new Nike Challenger OG mixes the retro styling of the original Challenger with a wider, more responsive sole for improved stability and a more comfortable fit.

“After re-releasing the Tailwind OG and Daybreak, we wanted to follow up with a model from the same era, but with a slightly different upper construction” says Rory Fraser, Nike Senior Global Product Manager. “The Challenger has more splits and panels, allowing us to play around with material and color in a slightly new way — and providing fans of the classics with something different to add to their closets.”

The Nike Challenger OG will be available later this summer from nike.com.
