Watch Porn: Breitling Aviator 8 Mosquito

Breitling’s Aviator 8 collection offers modern interpretations of the Swiss watchmakers early 1930s chronographs. The Aviator 8 B01 Chronograph 43 Mosquito draws on the design DNA and technical features of those early pilot watches to honor the De Havilland Mosquito, one of the fastest planes in the sky during World War II. Built between 1940 and 1950, the lightweight wooden construction of the so-called “Wooden Wonder” allowed it to fly 20 mph faster than the famous Spitfire, which was equipped with the same engine.

Elements of the Breitling Aviator 8 Mosquito recall the de Havilland aircraft’s on-board clocks and instruments, originally designed by Breitling’s Huit Aviation Department in the 1930s and 1940s. The 43 mm stainless steel case has a black satin-brushed ADLC-coated bezel. ADLC treatments produce a darker tone than the regular DLC (diamond-like carbon) coating that has been a popular feature on special edition Breitling watches for years – the deep, rich black appearance matches the night fighter adaptation of the de Havilland Mosquito. The black dial has contrasting orange hour, minute, and second hands. These markers and indices are coated with SuperLumiNova®, making the watch legible even in low light. Its striking red and orange accents mimic the roundels and markings featured on the fuselage of the de Havilland Mosquito. The dial is completed with three contrasting silver sub-dials and a date window between the 4 and 5 o’clock positions. The Breitling Manufacture Calibre 01 – visible through a transparent sapphire caseback – offers an impressive 70 hour power reserve. Finally, the COSC-certified chronometer is water resistant to 100 meters/10 bar.
