If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery Tomas Maier should be very flattered… but I doubt he would be. Truthfully there is no comparison between these two bags. Bottega Veneta is known for fastidiously understated luxury. Each Bottega bag is hand crafted and no two are completely alike. With proper care a Bottega Veneta bag can last for many years. Tomas Maier has said that more people could afford Bottega’s products if people just bought fewer things of greater quality. Are their products expensive? Yes. But a single well-made bag used for many years could be less expensive than several bags purchased over several years.

This woven leather duffel continues that trend. At $250 you get a lot of design for your dollar. Is it hand-made in Italy by specially trained craftsmen? No. But you’ll get over it.
