Goodhood Brings 18 East To London With Exclusive New Capsule

The 8-piece capsule collection represents the first opportunity to see 18 East product outside of the US and Japan.

Goodhood is bringing 18 East to the UK via a collaboration inspired by Syeus Mottel’s book Charas: The Improbable Dome Builders. Originally published in 1973, the book documents the efforts of the Lower East Side neighborhood organization CHARAS to build a geodesic dome on a reclaimed vacant lot underneath the Manhattan Bridge. CHARAS consulted with R. Buckminster Fuller, the revolutionary architect who popularized the geodesic dome, on ways to use alternative technology, sweat equity, and domes to develop community autonomy and house the poor. The brands used the groups attempts to ‘recontextualize unused, open space in urban environments’ as a starting point to ‘reinterpret utilitarian silhouettes through the incorporation of genuinely handcrafted production techniques.’

Dubbed The Improbable Builders’ Co-Op by 18 East and Goodhood, the 8-piece capsule includes a hoodie, bomber jacket, drawstring cargo pants, and a two-way zip front gilet cut from fuzzy cotton sherp. The pieces were made in India using hand-spun yarns and natural dying processes. Available from 9 January.
