Hublot is expanding its flagship Big Bang collection with a new timepiece inspired by Novak Djokovic’s record-breaking tennis career. Limited to 100 pieces, the Big Bang Unico Novak Djokovic is an incredibly light, highly personal watch with a sustainable component. To manufacture the watch Hublot developed a new composite material incorporating rackets and polo shirts used by Djokovic during the 2023 season – the year he made history by winning a record-extending 24th men’s singles major title. The 42-mm case and the bezel are made of an Epoxy resin, reinforced with quartz powder and glass veil, that has been fused with the recycled rackets and shirts. The resulting material is speckled with textile fragments and black carbon, creating a camo pattern. To ensure a feather-light feeling on the wrist, Hublot reduced the weight of the watch by using Gorilla Glass instead of sapphire crystal. Gorilla Glass is two times lighter than sapphire. Hublot also re-engineered the standard Unico brass movement to reduce the weight of the watch. Remade in aluminum, the movement is now 27% lighter. Aluminum was also used for some case components such as side pieces (3H-9H), sub-bezel, bezel lugs, pushers, crown and case-back.
Hublot’s design team incorporated a few Easter eggs into the watch for fans of the game and the Serbian pro. The fluorescent yellow seconds pusher and matching accents on the dial, along with the subtly domed bezel screws, all allude to tennis balls. While Djokovic’s logo appears on the seconds hand and again on the oscillating weight. As a finishing touch, this Big Bang comes with four straps: an elastic sweatband, a Velcro strap with a blue aluminum buckle, a white rubber strap, and a Lacoste strap. A Lacoste polo shirt is also included with the watch.
