Omega just released a new and improved version of the Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon. The original Dark Side of the Moon watch was released in 2018, marking the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 8 mission. The updated design sports an engraved Moon relief on the blackened main plate and bridges of the movement. Just like the Moon, the Calibre 3869 movement reveals two different sides. The dial-side represents the lunar surface as seen from Earth, while the back of the watch shows the dark side of the moon. This moon decoration is visible through the skeleton dial, crafted from black anodized aluminum, and the exhibition caseback. Omega used separate pieces of black ceramic to create the 44.25 mm case, case-back and polished bezel – etched with a tachymeter scale filled with bright white enamel. The finishing touch is the patent pending small-seconds hand at 9 o’clock, engineered from grade 5 titanium and shaped like NASA’s iconic Saturn V rocket.
