Rowing Blazers teamed up with specialist watchmaker Bamford to create an exclusive version of the TAG Heuer Carrera. Inspired by the Heuer Yacht-Timer worn by competitive sailors in the ‘60s and ‘70s, the design is a riff on the Yacht-Timer’s iconic color scheme: a white dial, bright blue text, and hits of red, blue, green, and pale yellow. The TAG Heuer Rowing Blazers x Bamford Carrerra also adopts the Yacht-Timer’s use of cross-hatching on the colors — an effect reminiscent of the “Ben Day dots” used to great effect in the 1960s by American pop artist Roy Lichtenstein. The Carrera features a 42mm stainless steel case and comes with both a matching steel bracelet and a red, white and blue NATO strap. Limited to 99 pieces, TAG’s 02 automatic chronograph movement powers the watch.
I’ve always loved the Heuer Yacht-Timer – both for its sporting origins and its very Rowing Blazers color scheme, but also because there’s something very Roy Lichtenstein about the way the colors are rendered.
