Hublot uses the MP collection as a showcase for ‘spectacular design and revolutionary movements.’ The latest addition to the collection pushes the boundaries with a kaleidoscopic, first-ever watch design. Unveiled at Art Basel Miami Beach 2022, the new MP-09 Tourbillon Bi-Axis Rainbow 3D Carbon reproduces the Swiss watchmaker’s signature rainbow gemstone pattern using colored carbon composites inserted into the 49-mm carbon case. In essence, thin bars of carbon are braided into the case to create the optical illusion of gradient gemstones in infinite shades. Each insert is imperceptibly cropped and polished to produce a surface that is entirely smooth to the touch. It’s powered by Hublot’s HUB9009.H1.RA.B movement with manual winding and a 5-day power reserve. The bi-axial tourbillon displayed at 6 o’clock completes one rotation per minuet for the first axis and a second rotation every 30 seconds for the second axis. This unique double rotation tourbillon dictated the curved case design. Limited to 8 pieces.
