Omega’s new Speedmaster X33 Marstimer is everything the name suggests. Made in partnership with the European Space Agency (ESA), the Marstimer can track times and time zones across planet Earth and on the red planet. Its functions include an innovative solar compass capable of finding true north on Earth and Mars. As well as an MTC function to track Mars’ sol date and time at the prime meridian, allowing for the fact that a day on Mars is 39 minutes longer than on Earth. The Marstimer can also access applications available on the Speedmaster Skywalker X33, like the MET (Mission Elapsed Time), PET (Phase Elapsed Time), and a perpetual calendar.
The chronograph has a 45-mm titanium case with a matching bracelet and a solid case-back embossed with Speedmaster’s seahorse logo alongside the ESA logo. Omega’s 5622 Calibre powers multiple analogue and digital readings, with Earth and Mars symbols to distinguish which particular functions are in use. Circling the black dial is an anodized aluminum bezel ring in a red-orange color reminiscent of Mars’ distinctive dust. This shade is also present on the seconds hand, which has a black to red gradient effect. For those wishing to switch out the titanium bracelet, the Marstimer also comes with a dedicated NATO strap and strap changing tool.
