Todd Snyder’s latest Timex exclusive is a minimalist take on the brands classic military watches. Inspired by standard issue World War II field watches, the Timex MK1 ‘Black + White’ features Arabic numerals on a two-tone dial with luminous hands inside a 40-mm stainless steel case. Black dials were standard during the war. There was no glare to give a soldier’s position away and the contrast of a black dial with luminescent numbers made it easy to read in low light. White dials were associated with dress watches. Snyder’s high-contrast black & white dial is a clever blend of sporty/mil-spec and civvies/uniform. And, according to Snyder, its guaranteed to remind New Yorkers of a hometown favorite – the black & white cookie.
