To mark the 70th anniversary of the British North Greenland Expedition, Tudor brought back the Ranger tool watch. In July 1952 the Expedition set out on a two-year mission studying Arctic ice sheets, equipped with 30 Oyster Prince watches. Tudor calibrated the pieces for the extreme conditions, lubricating the mechanics and providing bracelet extensions so the watches could be worn over parka sleeves. Although the watches used by the BNGE didn’t have Ranger inscribed on their dials, the spirit of the mission and the performance data collected informed subsequent models and perpetuated the concept of the expedition watch.
The new Ranger echos the styling of mid-century models while incorporating state-of-the-art technical elements. Arabic numerals on the matte black dial at 3, 6, 9 and 12 o’clock keep it retro, and beige luminescent coating on the hands and makers give it an ‘instant patina.’ The 39-mm satin-brushed steel case encloses a COSC certified Manufacture Calibre MT5402 with a 70 hour power reserve.
