Zenith positions the Defy collection as the future of watchmaking, “combining cutting-edge manufacture movements with futuristic forms and material.” Yet, for the latest addition to the Defy range the Swiss watchmaker went back to the start. The new Zenith Defy Revival A3642 is a faithful reproduction of the very first Defy model from 1969. It’s 37-mm octagonal steel case, paired with a fourteen-sided bezel, showcases sharply defined lines and facets with different finishes. Water-resistance of 30ATM (300 meters) is ensured by a screw-down crown. Inside, the warm brown gradient dial darkens towards the edges and features applied square hour markers with horizontal grooves. All the markers and hands are fill with SuperLumiNova in a similar tone to the Tritium found in the ‘69 watch. Zenith did make two significant changes between the Revival and the original. Instead of the original’s solid case back emblazoned with a four-pointed star, the DEFY Revival A3642 features a sapphire display back showcasing the latest Elite 670 manufacture movement, operating at a frequency of 4 Hz and delivering a power reserve of 50 hours when fully wound. Produced as a limited edition of 250 pieces.
