Omega is kicking off 2022 with a new Speedmaster Calibre 321 inspired by the very first Speedmaster, the CK2915-1. Introduced in 1957 as a tool for professional racing drivers, the CK2915-1 chronograph was the first watch to feature a tachymeter scale on the bezel – ideal for timing average speeds on the track. The new Speedmaster Calibre 321 Canopus Gold has a deep black dial with a vintage Omega logo and oval ‘O’ – details typical for the first CK2915 models. There are also 18K white gold hands and indexes with a Canopus Gold PVD treatment and three subdials: a small seconds display, 30-minute recorder and 12-hour recorder, along with the central chronograph function. On the bezel, the tachymeter scale is filled with black enamel and includes two features sought after by collectors: a dot over ninety (DON) and a dot diagonal to seventy. The retro style 38.6-mm case is crafted from 18K Canopus Gold, Omega’s proprietary white gold alloy distinguished by its brilliance and durability. While the crown features another reference to the ‘57 chrono, the NAIAD symbol specifically used to reference water-resistance on some of the first CK2915 models. Turning the watch over reveals an engraving of the Omega Seahorse – branding used on the Speedmaster since 1957 – added to the inside of the sapphire crystal. Its eye has been made from a blue sapphire, a stone that traditionally marks a 65-year celebration. Set on an 18K Canopus Gold bracelet, the Speedmaster Calibre 321 is presented in a special wooden box. Made with a Rosewood-like pattern in honor of the collection’s 65th anniversary, the design of the box recalls the Speedmaster boxes that customers would have received in 1957.
