Blancpain just released two new versions of the Fifty Fathoms Tourbillon 8 Jours. First introduced in 2007 with the launch of the Fifty Fathoms collection, the Tourbillon 8 Jours combines Blancpain’s passion for diving watches and its expertise in horological complications. The updated design showcases the intricate technicality of the tourbillon through a dedicated opening in the sun-brush blue dial. Dubbed a ‘flying’ tourbillon because it has no upper bridge to drive its cage, the complication appears to be floating in the round opening at 12 o’clock. Topped with a unidirectional rotating bezel with a slightly domed sapphire insert, the 45-mm case is available in grade 23 titanium or red gold. The case is water-resistant to 300 meters and houses a self-winding Calibre 25C, a movement finished with a Côtes de Genève motif and an openwork gold oscillating weight – visible through the sapphire case back.
The titanium model is available on a titanium bracelet ($118,800.00), a blue NATO strap ($116,600.00) or blue sailcloth strap ($117,300.00); the red gold model comes on a blue NATO strap ($132,500.00) or blue sailcloth strap ($137,500.00). For both models, the sailcloth strap can be combined with a pin buckle or folding clasp.
