Oris’s Dat Watt Limited Edition watch was designed to highlight the importance of the Wadden Sea, the world’s largest unbroken tidal flat in the southeastern part of the North Sea. In 2009 UNESCO awarded the area World Heritage Site status to reflect its role as a critical habitat for migratory birds. The Common Wadden Sea Secretariat is a tri-lateral organization – covering the Netherlands, Denmark and Germany – setup to protect the Wadden ecosystem. As part of its Change for the Better conservation initiative, Oris is partnering with the CWSS to support this vital work.
Based on the Aquis diver, the Dat Watt’s blue dial displays the lunar and tidal cycles in the Norther Hemisphere via the Pointer Moon function – originally created by Oris for professional divers. This function works using a central white pointer hand that once aligned with the correct day in the 29.5-day lunar cycle, shows the corresponding tidal range via the white outline on the dial. The same hand indicates the waxing and waning of the moon. A true diver, the 43.50 mm stainless steel case is water resistant to 300 meters and features a unidirectional rotating bezel, and luminous hands and indices. Each watch is individually number and comes in a special presentation box. The 2,009 piece edition corresponds to the year the Wadden Sea was awarded UNESCO World Heritage Site status.
