Breitling’s new Super Chronomat B01 44 is a rugged, all-purpose sports watch elegant enough to wear with a suit – sweat, leisure or tailored. Inspired by the Frecce Tricolori watch Breitling created for the Italian Air Force’s aerobatic fleet in 1983, the 44-mm Super Chronomat comes in three versions. Two are crafted in stainless steel with blue or black dial/bezel combinations. The third comes in an 18k red gold case with a rich brown dial-and-bezel combination ($23,650). All models feature contrasting silver chronograph counters powered by the COSC-certified Breitling Manufacture Caliber 01, which provides about 70 hours of power reserve. True to the original Chronomat, rider tabs protect the sapphire crystal. The tabs at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock are interchangeable, so the wearer can use them to countdown or count-up. New features include a stainless-steel bezel with a ceramic insert – a first on a Chronomat – plus the choice of a Rouleaux-inspired rubber strap or a metal bracelet with a butterfly clasp.
The standout piece in the collection is the black dial B01 44 with a UTC-module embedded in a Rouleaux bracelet ($10,000). A throwback to the 1980s, the Universal Time Coordinated module provides a dual time zone capability that makes the watch ideal for frequent flyers.
