The Royal Oak Concept “Black Panther” Flying Tourbillon is the first release from Audemars Piguet’s new Marvel Super Hero watch series. Rooted in the world created by Marvel’s Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the watch’s futuristic design recalls the cutting-edge super hero suit worn by the title character in director Ryan Coogler’s 2018 film Black Panther. The 42mm sandblasted titanium case topped with a black ceramic bezel and crown opens onto a hand-painted 3D rendition of the Super Hero. A single engraver meticulously carved out Black Panther’s body, before the figure was hand-painted with white gold. White gold Royal Oak hands with luminescent inserts above a pulsating flying tourbillon at 6 o’clock complete the dial.
The sapphire case-back provides another view of the watch’s colorful mix of comic fantasy and Haute Horlogerie. Coated in black PVD, the back movement’s geometric bridges reveal parts of the inner workings, including the back of the flying tourbillon cage and part of the gear train. Limited to 250 pieces, this pioneering watch is powered by the Calibre 2965 with a 72 hours power reserve. #WakandaForever
