Paul Smith Offers A Japanese Take On Americana For Latest Red Ear Collection

Paul Smith started designing and producing his Red Ear collection in Japan over twenty years ago to celebrate a shared appreciation for selvedge denim and authentic workwear. Smith named the line after the Japanese term for selvedge, akamini, which translates to “red ear.” True to Smith’s irreverent design philosophy, the Spring 2021 Red Ear collection stitches together an eclectic series of influences, from the darkly humorous work of acclaimed indie filmmaker Jim Jarmush to a Japanese take on Americana. Expect dancing devils printed on t-shirts and embroidered onto Sukajan-style souvenir jackets, neon accents inspired by road signs and dive bars, and plum colored drawstring pants and coveralls with a hand drawn check pattern.
