In 2015 Oris partnered with the Carl Brashear Foundation to support the inspirational legacy of the US Navy’s first African American diver and first amputee Master Diver – the highest warfare qualification for Naval divers. The new Oris Carl Brashear Cal. 401 Limited Edition is the third watch bearing his name, and the first watch powered by the in-house Calibre 401. Inspired by the bronze diving helmets worn by BMCM Brashear during his career, each of the 40mm bronze watch cases will develop a unique patina over time. The watch has a blue dial, symbolizing naval tradition, a uni-directional rotating bronze bezel with a diving scale in relief, and a custom-designed, moisture-wicking nylon webbing strap. Limited to 2,000 pieces, each watch is delivered in a special presentation box with a reproduction of Carl’s Master Diver badge fixed to the interior of the lid.
The Oris Carl Brashear Cal. 401 Limited Edition ($4,200) is available now at oris.ch. Funds raised from the sale of these watches support veterans and vulnerable people, giving them the help and support they need to achieve their goals.
