Watch Porn: Ulysse Nardin’s ‘Diver Net’ Concept Watch Is Made Of Recycled Fishing Nets

According to Greenpeace, a staggering 12 million tonnes of plastic ends up in the ocean every year. These ocean plastics can entangle, smother or kill animals. Abandoned or discarded fishing nets makes up a significant percentage of this waste and are especially deadly because they are specifically designed to catch marine wildlife. French start-up Fil&Fab is tackling the issue of marine plastics with a fishing net recycling network in harbors across Brittany. The nets collected are converted to polyamide pellets, which are then used to create a series of new plastic products.

As part of its ongoing commitment to preserving the marine environment and creating a circular economy, Ulysse Nardin partnered with Fil&Fab to create an innovative concept watch made with upcycled plastics. The case, middle, back and bezel of the new Ulysse Nardin DIVER NET are fabricated from these recycled nets. The strap is woven with yarn made by Swiss company Tide from recaptured ocean plastic. Inside the case, acid green Superluminova on the hour markers and hands improve visibility in low light. The dial also features a power reserve indicator at 12 o’clock, as well as a date window and a small second hand at 6 o’clock. The silicon technology of the in-house UN-118 movement can be admired through the back of its 44mm case.

The DIVER NET is a concept watch not currently included in Ulysse Nardin’s retail collection. Shop divers now at ulysse-nardin.com.
