Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Polaris collection is a direct descendant of the iconic 1968 Memovox Polaris, a dive watch with an internal rotating bezel and mechanical alarm complication capable of alerting divers it was time to surface. Popular at the time, today the 1968 model is a favorite among collectors. Now, Jaeger-LeCoultre is expanding the collection with the new Polaris Mariner capsule, a set of high-performance diving watches designed in the spirit of the original.
With their taut lines, glass-box crystals, and mix of brushed and polished surfaces, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Mariner Memovox and the Polaris Mariner Date follow the design codes of the sporty collection. Both models share a gradient-blue dial with three concentric circles punctuated by trapezoid-shaped indexes, Arabic numerals at 12, 6 and 9 o’clock, and a sunray-brushed central disc – which complements the finish of the outer ring that serves a rotating bezel. All markers are all filled with SuperLumiNova to ensure visibility in low light. The crown used to set the notched inner-bezel is screwed-down to avoid unintentional movement, with an orange security band to warn divers when it is not securely in place. To maximize safety, JLC used different colors to distinguish the hour and minute hands. Also, the running seconds hand has an orange tip visible in daylight and a luminescent central rectangle to avoid confusion with the other hands. Both Polaris Mariner cases are fully compliant with ISO 6425 dive watch specifications and water-resistant to 300 meters (30 bar).
The Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Mariner Memovox ($17,600.00) and the Polaris Mariner Date ($11,100.00) are available now at jaeger-lecoultre.com.
