A new normal. A new daily life. I feel like I hear these words more and more often. But now as the concepts of normalcy are becoming more and more ambiguous, perhaps the elimination of categories such as old and new is “normal” and the way it should be. – Tet Nishiyama on WATPS FW20
Tetsu Nishiyama’s Fall/Winter 2020 WTAPS collection has an urban survival gear feel, built on oversized proportions. The brands devotees will be glad to know there are still plenty of varsity jackets, sweatshirts, joggers and armyesque outerwear. But the influence of the “new normal” is evident. Along with the proportions, layering, draping and quilting bolstered the protective feel. A hooded poncho with a relaxed half placket, buttoned cuffs and tab collar feels like an oversized shirt, bat-wing sleeves pop up on embroider sweatshirts and military-inspired blousons, and a lightweight collarless coat with a single closure is cut like a housecoat, that you can wear all day.
