Watch Porn: Tudor Releases Vintage Inspired Black Bay Fifty-Eight ‘Navy Blue’

Tudor pays tribute to the brand’s early dive watches with the Black Bay Fifty-Eight Navy Blue. Designed for vintage enthusiasts, the 39 mm stainless steel case evokes the proportions of the 1958 Big Crown, Tudor’s first diver waterproof to 200 meters and where this line of watches gets its name. The navy colorway references a dive watch introduced in 1969 with a blue dial, matching bezel and square hour markers and hands dubbed “snowflakes” by collectors. The popular color became synonymous with the watchmaker, and the Tudor Blue hallmark was born.

While the Black Bay Fifty-Eight Navy Blue brings back all these mid-century elements – blue dial, blue bezel, angular “snowflake” hands and a large winding crown, characteristic of the first generation of Tudor divers – there is one important new addition. This Back Bay is powered by Tudor’s very own calibre MT5402 automatic movement, from the second family of movements the brand manufactures in-house. Designed for medium-sized watches, the 26 mm certified chronometer produces a 70-hour power reserve and displays hour, minute and seconds functions.

Finally, the Black Bay Fifty-Eight comes with a choice of a riveted steel bracelet ($3,700), a “soft touch” leather strap with folding clasp ($3,375), or a fabric strap ($3,375). The Jacquard fabric strap is made using traditional methods by a hundred-year-old family business from the St-Etienne region of France.
