What do the 1959 Omega Constellation, 1970 Audemar Piguet Royal Oak, 1976 Patek Philippe Nautilus and the 1985 Pasha de Cartier have in common? All four of these iconic luxury watches were conceived by Swiss artist and watch designer Gérald Genta. The Cartier collection spawned by his design took its name from a watch Louis Cartier created in the 1930s to fill a commission from the Pasha of Marrakech. This ‘Pasha’ watch led to a new circular model, introduced in 1943. These two watches inspired Genta’s 1985 Pasha de Cartier.
Ten years after its retirement, Cartier is relaunching the Pasha de Cartier as a modern, unisex timepiece. Available now in China and worldwide in September, the new Pasha comes in steel, yellow and rose gold, set with or without brilliant-cut diamonds. There are several different models, but common features include a new crown, interchangeable straps, personalized engraving and a sapphire crystal case-back that reveals the in-house 1847 MC automatic caliber. Faithful to Gérald Genta’s 1985 model, the 2020 Pasha de Cartier retains two of the originals iconic hallmarks, the square filigree rail-track inside the circular dial and the blue spinel or sapphire crown decoration.
