In May Alessandro Michele announced that Gucci will reduce the number of yearly shows it stages from five to two, going seasonless in an effort to move past “the tyranny of speed” and “imposed deadlines that risk to humiliate creativity.” The designer made his case with six Instagram posts titled Notes from the Silence. This new strategy emerged while he was confined at home during the COVID-19 lock-down. The goal of “purifying the essential by getting rid of the unnecessary” is tied to his concerns about the fashion industry’s environmental footprint.
Today, the shape of Michele’s vision for the future of brand is a little clearer. The new Gucci Off The Grid collection is made using recycled, organic, bio-based and sustainably sourced materials, including ECONYL – a material made from regenerated Nylon coupled with solvent-free recycled polyester as well as leftovers from Gucci’s manufacturing processes. The collection is one of the first steps in a years long effort to create a circular production cycle and use sustainability to power creativity and underline the brands values.

Academy Award-winning actress, producer, and activist Jane Fonda leads the Off The Grid launch campaign, which also includes Lil Nas X, King Princess, Miyavi and David Mayer de Rothschild – all wearing pieces from the collection. Conceived by Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele, the campaign was shot by photographer and director Harmony Korine in the most bucolic of settings.. a penthouse ‘tree-house’ – its still Gucci.
