Ulysse Nardin will be the official timekeeper of the 2020 Vendée Globe, the only single-handed non-stop yacht race around the world without assistance. The race begins and ends in Les Sables d’Olonne, a seaside town in the Vendée region of Western France. With icy condition, mountainous waves and howling gales the race is often referred to as the Everest of the Seas.
Inspired by the sailors who take on this dangerous challenge, Ulysse Nardin created the Vendée Globe Collection featuring the limited edition Diver X Cape Horn and Diver X Nemo Point. The new divers are named for points of the course, which takes the monohull yachts on a 40,075 km north-south trajectory around the Earth. To complete the course, sailors must sail around the southernmost tip of Chile, passing the Tierra del Fuego archipelago and Cape Horn. As the point where the Pacific and Atlantic meet, the waters around Cape Horn are particularly treacherous. Skippers face icebergs, violent winds and dangerous currents. To mark this critical stage of the race, the GPS coordinates of Cape Horn and a map of the race route are stamped on the back of each Ulysse Nardin Diver X Cape Horn watch.
Tested under rigorous real-world conditions, the Diver X Cape Horn is built to withstand the extreme conditions of the Vendée Globe. Limited to just 300 pieces, it’s engineered with a reliable in-house UN-118 automatic movement, encased in 44 mm titanium case with a carbon bezel and a race ready tactical-grade nylon strap. The Diver X Cape Horn ($9,900.00) is available now.
