Yuki Matsuda’s Spring/Summer 2020 Monitaly collection has everything you’ve come to expect – military-inflected workwear, animal prints – spiked with a few new tricks – cropped sweatshirts and madras patchwork. The result is a collection of contradictions. Military motorcycle pants, field jackets, and camo print vests vests with details borrowed from 1960’s Canadian Army Field Jackets alongside 1980’s style cropped sweatshirts with 3D embroidered avocados and screen print pocket tee’s with custom 60’s rock poster graphics. One of the collections greatest strengths is the materials, particularly an exclusive 50’s inspired madras patchwork design and tie-dyed denim covered in paint splatters. While riffs on “African cultural” prints produced camp-collar shirts with abstract patterns and a slight shimmer.
