Fendi collaborated with Japanese shoemaker Moonstar on a line of waterproof footwear for its Spring/Summer 2020 men’s collection. Founded as a tabi maker (traditional split-toe shoes with a rubber sole) in Kurume, Japan in 1873, Moonstar shoes are hand-made with natural rubber using the ka-ryu (vulcanising) process – a traditional technique impossible to replicate with machines.
Fendi used Monnstar’s time-tested ka-ryu technique to produce a lace-up low-top sneaker and all-weather high-top. The rubber sole of the low-top ($690.00) is bonded to a water-resistant canvas upper with a jacquard FF pattern (in black or black on brown) or a tone-on-tone white striped pattern. The six-eye lace-up high-tops ($890.00) are made with Fendi’s classic Pequin striped pattern in shades of brown with a removable felt liner for extra warmth. Both styles are made in Italy and finished with an extra-rugged toe cap for added durability.
