Marine life tucked away in cracks and crevices during the day are out hunting and foraging at night, offering divers a distinct and memorable experience. Inspired by the nighttime ocean, Seiko’s new Prospex Black Series Limited Edition is specially designed to meet the performance and visibility challenges of nocturnal dives.
The stainless steel SLA035J1, SSC761J1, and SPB125J1 dive watches are coated in a black, water resistant hard-coating. Limited to a series of just 600 pieces, the 44.3mm case of the SLA035J1 (above) holds a red-accented dial with luminescent hands and indexs. Red light is hardly absorbed in water at depths of 300m making red objects and organisms invisible. Instantaneous judgment is critical under at depth so Seiko made the edges of the seconds hand and the 300m mark on the dial red to eliminate unnecessary information and allowing instantaneous readability.
The larger 44.5mm SSC761J1 and 45mm SPB125J1 “Sumo” are both water resistant to 200m/660ft with special Lumibrite markers in the same distinct shade of orange. On the minute hand, this shade of orange mimics the light flashed in the darkness by night divers which allows for the exact time to be visible under dark conditions. Both models have screw-down crowns to deter any accidental operations. The SSC761J1 is available in a series of 3,500 with the popular 7,000 pieces of the SPB125J1 “Sumo” available in February.
