For his first collection with Reigning Champ, up-and-coming creative director and designer Jide Osifeso drew inspiration from Vancouver’s rain-soaked climate and the utilitarian style of the Pacific Northwest. “When I think of Vancouver and the Pacific Northwest I think of rain. It’s a kind of somber environment. I thought the contrast between gloomy weather and literally weeping, or rain falling from the sky as if it were weeping was fitting,” Osifeso said. “I thought that was a cool thing to explore and relate back to the overall exploration of what Reigning Champ is to me.”
Called Weeping Eye, the limited edition capsule channels Osifeso’s minimalist design ethos – seen in his work with Kendrick Lamar x Nike, Undercover, and Jaden Smith’s iconic Coachella stage, as well as his four year old label HYMNE – and knack for combing activewear with refined design. The 14 piece line uses boxy fits, innovative pocket and zipper constructions, and combinations of screen prints and embroidery to showcase his experimental approach to menswear.
