On April 27 and 28 1996, six months after the release of their second album (What’s The Story) Morning Glory?, Oasis headlined their first ever stadium shows at Manchester’s Main Road stadium – then home to Manchester City FC. City fans since birth, Noel and Liam Gallagher stepped on stage in front of 42,000 hometown fans on the cusp of their 1990s Britpop glory. On the second night Liam Gallagher took the stage in a long-sleeved, blue Umbro drill top. British Vogue credited the Gallagher’s attire at Maine Road with elevating athletic wear “from trainspotting mundanity to the realm of streetwear cool.”
The energy of these Main Road shows inspired Pretty Green’s first collaboration with Umbro – an ode to ‘90s sportswear, Cool Britannia and a time when music and football were intrinsically connected. The collection includes drill tops, parkas, track pants, and football shirts, drawing on the influences and heritage of two brands deeply rooted in British culture.
