Originally designed in 1957 for Turin tram-drivers, Persol‘s 649 sunglasses rose from practical beginnings to become synonymous with Italian style when Marcello Mastroianni wore a pair in the 1961 film Divorce, Italian Style – director Pietro Germi’s cutting satire of Sicilian male-chauvinist culture. With its unique shape and signature Silver Arrow connecting the arms, the 649 is the standard-bearer of the brand, which makes it a natural choice for Persol’s first ever collaboration.
Three exclusive colors of the Persol x A.P.C. 649 popped up on the runway at the A.P.C. Spring 2020 runway show in Paris. The brown, green and white 649s will be available soon from persol.com.
