British labels Gloverall and Les Basics team up for a four piece AW19 capsule collection. Designed in London and made in Portugal, Les Basics built a dedicated following with small collections of ‘not-so-basic’ basics cut from premium fabrics since launching in 2016. Searching Gloverall’s archives for inspiration, Les Basics paired down the traditional silhouettes, updated the finishes and focused on color and texture – echoing the color-blocking and fabric combinations of their mainline AW19 collection.
The centerpiece of the capsule is L’Overcoat, an update of Gloverall’s traditional silhouette. Les Basics switched out the traditional toggles for press studs, added a detachable hood and used a combination of jersey-backed wool contrasted with nylon ripstop to create a longer overcoat with a more utilitarian look. The second outerwear piece, Le Coach Jacket crops Gloverall’s Whitby Deck Duffle for a boxy, modern fit. The styling mimics the overcoats raglan sleeves and combination of wool and nylon ripstop. Both outerwear designs are made in England. The collection also includes the Le Boat Neck Sweat and Le Polo Sweat. These minimalist designs in soft cotton loopback knit offer the same comfort and insulation as a sweatshirt – ideal for late summer.
