TAG Heuer designed a series of limited edition Monaco Calibre 11 chronographs to commemorate the 50th anniversary of one of the brands most popular watches. Each design recalls the trends, colors and styles of the watches first five decades.
Faithful to the origins of the collection, the latest edition to the series is all about the 1990s. The Monaco Calibre 11 1989-1999 Edition ($6,550) celebrates a booming 1990s industry: video games. The 90s was an era of video game evolution, from the rise of hand-held gaming to the emergence of 3D game consoles. Limited to 169 pieces, the new Monaco includes some steely 90s tech style touches like the grey grained dial with blue & red rhodium plated indexes/hands and two grey sub-dials at 3 and 9. The dials Monaco logo gives up the serifs and adopts a more modern identity. The 39 mm polished steel case sits on a blue leather strap with red lining. Inside, the renowned Calibre 11 movement combines style and performance. The case-back is engraved with the original “Monaco Heuer” logo as well as “1989-1999 Special Edition” and “One of 169”.
