Last year Stella McCartney attended a special screening celebrating the 50th anniversary of the iconic Beatles film Yellow Submarine. Set to a Beatles soundtrack, the colorful hand-illustrated film is a psychedelic adventure. “It affected me in a way I just wasn’t expecting” McCartney said. “Especially this idea of connecting people and bringing people together—politically this message has never been more relevant. So, I came out and I was like ‘I have to do something.’” The vivid imagery created by German artist Heinz Edelmann – digitally remastered for a modern audience – inspired Stella to create the All Together Now collection.
The kaleidoscopic capsule is as bold as the film. Beatles badges and embroidery decorate tailored coats, macs and shackets. The ‘Pepperland’ print from Yellow Submarine is wrapped around a short sleeve button down shirt. Lyrics like “All Together Now” sing out across T-shirts and sweatshirts in half a dozen languages. And the visage of all four Beatles adorned a selection of cotton T-shirts and wool sweaters.
McCartney cast musicians KEYAH/BLU, Joy Crookes, Oscar Jerome and Femi Koleoso in the accompanying campaign film. Dressed head-to-toe in the All Together Now collection, the four musical talents interact with graphics and characters from the film before coming together to perform a dreamy beat composed exclusively for the campaign.
