Prada is eliminating virgin nylon from its production process. The Italian label recently pledged to use only upcycled and regenerated nylon in all its products by the end of 2021. As part of their sustainability initiative, Prada released the Re-Nylon capsule of bags, purses, and backpacks made using ECONYL – an infinitely recyclable yarn.
Inspired by Miuccia Prada’s classic early 80s backpacks and totes made out of industrial-quality “Pocone” nylon, the new Re-Nylon collection is made with nylon yarns produced by recycling plastic waste collected from oceans, fishing nets, and textile fibre waste. A portion of proceeds from the sale of the Re-Nylon designs will be donated to UNESCO to support the development of school curriculum focused on environmental sustainability.
“This project highlights our continued efforts towards promoting a responsible business” said Lorenzo Bertelli, Prada Group Head of Marketing and Communication. “This collection will allow us to make our contribution and create products without using new resources.”
