Two years after Omega first introduced the Speedmaster line, NASA astronaut Wall Schirra boarded the third Mercury-Atlas 8 orbital flight (Sigma 7) wearing his Speedmaster CK2998. This was the beginning of Omega’s long association with Americas space program. After six lunar missions and dozens of test flights, Omega commemorates the Speedmaster’s pioneering history with the latest edition to the line.
The Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch features a black hesalite crystal dial with a central chronograph hand and three sub-dials; one for seconds, a 30-minute recorder and a 12-hour recorder. The black bezel, with its tachymetric scale, is mounted on a 42 mm stainless steel case attached to a matching bracelet. OMEGA’s mechanical calibre 1861, the legendary manual-winding movement worn on the Moon, powers the new chronograph. All of this comes in a special Moonwatch presentation box which contains a “NATO” strap, a strap for astronauts, a tool to change the bracelet and a book highlighting Speedmaster’s adventures in space.
The Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch is available now from omegawatches.com.
