For twin brothers Ariel and Shimon Ovadia Fall 2019 is about self discovery. The Israeli-born, Brooklyn-raised designers told their story and the story of the Ovadia brand with personal and spiritual references woven into the collection – literally. A newspaper photo of their father playing professional football in Israel is printed on a camp collar shirt and knitted into a sweater. Dads pro jersey number, five, shows up throughout the collection. Illustrated graphics of postcards, taxi cabs, musical notes and dancing celebrate the sights and sounds of New York, while ancient Hebrew texts printed on t-shirts, sweatshirts and jacket linings are a nod to their Yeshiva education. These influences and experiences make for interesting design elements but its the twins ability to mix a smart, tailored sensibility into sporty, functional clothes that makes the story compelling.
