Filson’s newest store is in the heart of New York City’s Union Square neighborhood, at 876 Broadway. The 6,000-square-foot flagship showcases Filson’s entire line, as well as specialty products and store exclusives. The Union Square location is the second New York City Filson store, the outdoor outfitter owns and operates the C.C. Filson Store at 40 Great Jones Street in NoHo.
Each store is a reflection of its location. Where the Great Jones Store is a smaller, boutiqueish space on a smart street the Broadway store is grand (in a rustic, stylishly rugged, glamping kind of way), with a commanding entryway framed by a reclaimed 1850s Douglas Fir barn brought to New York from Ashland, Oregon. The decor also includes a stained-glass piece by David Fjeld, a 14-foot chainsaw-carved sculpture by Jeffrey Samudosky and a 3D wood-carved wall-mounted contemporary sculpture by Aleph Geddis inspired by indigenous Northwest carvings.
“Filson New York Flagship stands for so much beyond a brick and mortar retail store; this represents a new space for people to discover what the Pacific Northwest and the great outdoors means to them. Our products and merchandise simply exist to further that exploration,” added Alex Carleton, chief creative officer of Filson. “Throughout the process of designing this store, we looked to those places – museums, parks and historical sites – to inspire us. The result is a well thought out, meticulously designed space that allows people of all walks of life to understand what it means to be a part of the Filson brand.”
