Rag & Bone is joining the Discovery Communications/World Wildlife Fund effort to purchase and conserve a nearly one million acre tiger site in India and Bhutan. Called Project C.A.T. (Conservation Acres for Tigers), the partnership aims to protect and increase the wild tiger population, which has dropped by 96% in the last century alone to only 4,000 left in the wild due to habitat loss and pervasive poaching. The Discovery/WWF partnership provides funding to build effective ranger programs to combat poaching, monitor tiger populations through camera traps and support protected areas of habitat critical to tiger survival.
To raise awareness and funds Marcus Wainwright tapped self-taught artist Boy Kong to design a custom Project C.A.T. graphic for a T-shirt and mural collaboration. Inspired by Japanese woodblock prints, graffiti and animal folklore, Kong’s colorful visual style is immediately identifiable and perfectly suited to this crucial project. Rag & Bone’s Houston Project: Boy Kong for Project C.A.T. mural is on-view through August 14th (73 East Houston Street) and the limited edition Project Cat Tee is available now ($95.00) from rag-bone.com. In addition to the tee, Rag & Bone will donate 10% of all sales made in selected stores (including Mercer & E. Houston St.) between 12-4PM on July 29th, Global Tiger Day, to the WWF. So get your look together while helping to double the number of tigers in the wild, #winwin.
