Pringle of Scotland SS18: Make Do & Mend

Funnily enough for a label known for sumptuous modern knitwear, the Pringle of Scotland SS18 knits were inspired by old fishermen’s sweaters from the Isle of Skye. Massimo Nicosia wanted to recreate the texture and feel of these hand-knitted sweaters – sun-bleached, salt-washed, constantly patched and mended, worn summer after summer – for his last collection as men’s design director. Nicosia showcases Pringle’s expertise by deconstructing traditional patterns and techniques then digitally redesigning the stitches to create the impression of hand-darned patches with engineered imperfections. The uneven weaves and imperfect stitches may look like make do and mend but make no mistake, these are some seriously lux rags.
