J.Crew has teamed up with socially motivated SoCal lifestyle brand Apolis to create a must have pair of swim trunks. Handcrafted in a California factory that has been making swimwear for lifeguards since the 1960s, the trunks are made with natural indigo-dyed fabric that will lighten in color as it is exposed to the elements to create the perfect lived-in look. Apolis’ Raan and Shea Parton have been “obsessed with the way indigo chambray ages and improves over time. This 5½-ounce Spanish chambray is super durable thanks to three-needle stitching. This exact silhouette was previously created for California watermen in the 1960s.”
Brothers Raan and Shea Parton founded Apolis in 2004 with the belief that business can create social change through local industry. The name Apolis means “global citizen” and through their travels abroad Raan and Shea have come to understand the importance of sourcing and manufacturing locally. Whether it means partnering with manufacturers in Uganda, Peru, Bangladesh, or around the corner in Los Angeles, the Partons have used their model of “advocacy through industry” to empower people to determine their own future.
