Frida Giannini’s Spring 2013 Gucci collection was a sophisticated blend of razor-sharp tailoring and spring color. One of the inspirations for the show was a striped burlap Gucci carrier bag Giannini found at auction. The 1960’s bag was produced in color combination she’d never seen in the Gucci archive. With that inspiration, the show opened with a slim two-button Kelly green suit and color parade continued with yellow, watermelon, cobalt and bright orange pieces before transitioning to a palette of cream, white and black. The generously cut single and double-breasted coats, suede bombers and cuffed pants were all worn with the classic Gucci bit loafer, a nod to the shoes 60th anniversary this year.
