The New Saddle Shoe

Saddle shoes are traditionally oxford shoes with a saddle-shaped panel in the middle of the shoe. Typically constructed of white buckskin with a red or black saddle strap stitched across the vamp. Originally made for racquet sports the ‘saddle’ was a reinforcement used to support the foot during sprints. The shoes eventually caught on with golfers in the 1930’s before gaining wider popularity in the 1950’s. For many people saddle shoes are still synonymous with grandpa’s, golf or preppy style – these are not those shoes.
