Louis Vuitton Unveils Kusama Collaboration: PRINCESS OF THE POLKA DOTS

Louis Vuitton is collaborating with Japanese artist and writer Yayoi Kusama for a polka dot inspired collection. Marc Jacobs, Creative Director of Louis Vuitton, will incorporate her vision into apparel and accessories including a trench, pajamas and jewelry. The collection will be unveiled on July 10, two days before the opening of the Kusama exhibit at the Whitney Museum in New York.

Princess Of The Polka Dots

Yayoi Kusama met Vuitton designer Jacobs six years ago when she gifted him a Vuitton Ellipse bag she had customized herself. “In a fascinating way, the monogram canvas is as obsessional as Yayoi’s dots.” Yves Carcelle, Vuitton’s president and chief executive officer told WWD. Louis Vuitton has collaborated successfully with several artists in the past including Stephen Sprouse, Richard Sprince and Takashi Murakami. Carcelle believes the collaboration “tend to be a commercial success because of the strength of the artist and the strength of Vuitton. But the whole concept doesn’t start from a commercial point of view.”
