Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow, the designers behind Public School, met while working at Sean John, Osborne as a womenswear designer and Chow as creative director. After discovering that they had similar aesthetics and goals they started their own company determined to create well designed basics with attitude; removable plackets on zip front jackets, detachable fingerless leather gloves on parkas, convertible collars on woven shirts.
Public School the brand is as committed to NYC as it is inspired by the city. The line is manufactured in factories in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. In 2010 Chow & Osborne were chosen as one of the twelve inaugural participants of the CFDA Fashion Incubator Program. The fund provides design studios and business advise to help brands grow their business. Their Autumn Winter 2012 presentation at Milk Studios was the brands first runway show. With a color palette of black, white, grey and brown the 26 piece collection was cohesive and wearable.
