Ojay Morgan, better know as his alter ego Zebra Katz, got his big break during the Rick Owens Autumn Winter 2012 Paris show. Rick Owens show’s are generally well reviewed, as this show was, but this year the clothes weren’t the only topic of conversation. Along with the flames burning on the runway, literally, many of the bloggers and editors who attended the show wrote and/or twitted about the only song on the soundtrack- Ima Read by Zebra Katz (scroll down for video). Editor and street styLe start Tommy Ton tweeted “BEST SOUNDTRACK EVER” and fashion writer Derek Blasber named it “the song of #PFW” (Paris Fashion Week).

Fashion show soundtracks have helped to launch many a career. Long before her Saturday Night Live performance Christoper Kane played Lana Del Rey’s Video Games during his Spring 2012 show and Azealia Banks’ 212 was a favorite of Alexander Wang’s months before she was selected to replace Nicki Minaj as the entertainment at this years MET Ball. Other fashion favorites have included Florence Welch of Florence And The Machine and Beth Ditto. While these singers have benefited form their association with fashion it is important to note that Zebra Katz is a performance artist who makes music. So far his tracks have been more spoken word set to music than traditional pop or hip-hop songs. Still, with a record deal, a buzz worthy performance at South by Southwest, and New York Times article under his belt Katz has the attention of all right people and in today’s crowed media environment that in and of itself is a talent.
