Alexander Wang opened his new store in Beijing’s Chaoyang District on Friday. The store is located in Sanlitun Village, an open-air shopping center of freestanding shops and restaurants that is home to Alexander McQueen, Balmain, Versace and Maison Martin Margiela. Developing a retail presence is now a major focus of the brand with plans to have 15 stores by the end of the year with several in China and all but one in Asia.
Architect Joseph Dirand designed the marble, bronze and mirrored space. The 4,000 square-foot store will sell the entire range of Alexander Wang designs with some site specific items. The Alexander Wang brand now includes three lines; Alexander Wang Collection, his “Core” collection featuring tailored separates and the diffusion line T by Alexander Wang launched in 2009. The brand also includes a rapidly expanding accessories collection.
The grand opening event included American and Chinese celebrities along with rappers and fashion folks.
